Welcome to your first year at UA! In FYE we consider all students attending the university for the first time to be first year students and we want to support you during your transition to the Capstone. Are you a transfer student wondering where to begin your transition to UA? You have reached the right place! The Office of First Year Experience and Retention Initiatives offers events and programs throughout the year specifically for transfer students. If you have any questions or want to know more about being involved, please do not hesitate to contact us.
Each semester our office plans several workshops and social events to get you plugged in with other transfer students on campus and connected to offices and resources essential to your success. Whether it’s jump starting your career readiness or letting off some steam during transfer-only Outdoor Rec Trips, we have plenty of ways for you to get involved.
Ignite UA is a community-building program specifically designed for first-year students as they continue to transition to life at The University of Alabama in the Spring. In this program, you will build connections with peers, develop your identity and an appreciation of difference in others, gain knowledge about UA opportunities and resources, and network with faculty and staff. Through Ignite UA, students gain tangible skills for success as a student and a community of peers and staff at UA. Participants do not need previous experience to join, only a commitment to allow Ignite UA to be the spark to ignite your life and experience at UA!
For more information on applying to Ignite UA and the timeline of the program, visit the Application Page.
Tau Sigma is a national honor society dedicated to recognizing the academic achievements of transfer students and helping them establish connections with The University of Alabama. Tau Sigma offers chances for leadership positions and opportunities for scholarships. In order to be eligible for Tau Sigma, a student must receive a 3.5 GPA their first semester after transferring from another institution.
Tau Sigma will select new members each Spring. Please be sure you have provided the University of Alabama with your most up-to-date physical address. Letters will be mailed to potential members from Tau Sigma National Headquarters.
Are you feeling overwhelmed by the size of UA or all of the new organizations, groups, and events to choose from? Let our staff help you find your place on campus and connect you with other staff and students here!
Transition Talks are your opportunity to set up individual meetings with a professional staff member, graduate student staff member, or undergraduate student staff member to discuss goal setting, involvement opportunities, and challenges or successes you are facing at UA. Additionally, Transition Talks provide an opportunity to gain a connection on campus.
If you are interested in scheduling a Transition Talk, simply fill out this form and a staff member from our office will contact you soon!
