About Camp 1831

What is Camp 1831?

Camp 1831 is the perfect way to start your journey at The University of Alabama. It is a 3-day, 2-night program filled with activities centered around four main themes: adventure, leadership, service, and history & tradition. This experience is all about getting comfortable on campus, developing friendships, learning about UA culture, and having fun! You will leave Camp 1831 confident and ready to begin life at the Capstone.

When is Camp 1831?

Session 1: August 8-10, 2018
Session 2: August 13-15, 2018

How long does each Camp 1831 session last?

Each session is 3 days and 2 nights. Day 1 and Day 2 include activities from approximately 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. followed by Day 3 with activities from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. 

Where is Camp 1831?

Camp 1831 takes place on the campus of The University of Alabama in a variety of student centered facilities including the Ferguson Student Center, Student Recreation Center, academic buildings, and Quad.

Who can attend Camp 1831?

Camp 1831 is designed for first-year students (Freshman and Transfer Students) admitted for summer or fall 2018.

Who will be at Camp 1831 from UA?

Staff from the Office of First Year Experience and Retention Initiatives will be on site throughout each session. Additional faculty and staff will be on site as well. Students will be led by The A-Team, a group of 48 upperclassman leaders.

If I am planning to participate in sorority recruitment, can I attend Camp 1831 as well?

Those going through sorority recruitment should plan to attend Session 1 of Camp 1831 (August 8-10, 2018). Sorority Convocation will take place after Camp 1831 finishes on Day 3 of Session 1.

If I am planning to participate in the Million Dollar Band, can I attend Camp 1831 as well?

Traditionally, the Million Dollar Band has commitments on Day 3 of Session 1, so you will need to make accommodations for the conflict. You may contact our office for information about possible accommodations. Please note Camp 1831 has a no refund policy once payment is made.

If I am planning to participate in an early move-in activity (i.e. Honors Action, Outdoor Action, Biology Bootcamp, etc.), can I attend Camp 1831 as well?

You will want to confirm participation dates, but traditionally, these activities begin following Session 1 of Camp 1831. Therefore, you could possibly attend Session 1 of Camp 1831 followed by participating in an additional early move-in activity. Please note Camp 1831 has a no refund policy once payment is made.

Cost and Payment

How much does Camp 1831 cost, and what is included?

The registration fee for Camp 1831 is $175 and includes meals, a Camp 1831 t-shirt, Camp 1831 supplies, and transportation for camp related events. Note there are no refunds once payment is made. 

What forms of payment are accepted?

You can pay using e-check or credit card (American Express, Visa, Mastercard, and Discover).

Are refunds for Camp 1831 available?

Camp 1831 fees are non-refundable. There will be no refunds once payment is made, even if a student cancels their registration.

Are scholarships available for Camp 1831?

There are a limited number of scholarships available to students with a demonstrated financial need. For information on scholarships, please contact our office at (205) 348-8404 or fye@ua.edu.

Registration

How do I register for Camp 1831?

The site can be accessed through the Registration Tab on the Camp 1831 page. Registration will require you to log-in to myBama. Note that you must be registered for Bama Bound (new student orientation) to register for Camp 1831. Once registration is complete, you will receive a confirmation email to your Crimson email account.

When does registration close for Camp 1831?

Camp 1831 registration will close once sessions are full or Friday, July 20, 2018 at 5 p.m. Spots will be filled on a first come, first served basis.

How do I review my registration information?

Click the Registration Tab on the Camp 1831 page. You will be required to login to myBama and your camp confirmation will appear.

Can I register more than one person for Camp 1381?

No. The registration system will only allow you to register yourself for Camp 1831. Please encourage your friends to register themselves using their myBama information.

What do I do if the information on my registration is incorrect?

If a change needs to be made to your auto-populated information, please make the appropriate changes on your myBama account. To make changes, visit www.mybama.ua.edu and click on the Student Tab. From there, go to the Banner Self-Service section and click on Personal Information for change options.

How do I change my Camp 1831 session?

Depending on availability, we can make changes to your session date. Any changes to sessions will need to be done by a staff member. Please contact the Office of First Year Experience and Retention Initiatives at (205) 348-8404 or by email at fye@ua.edu.

Camp 1831 Sessions

What should I bring to Camp 1831?

A Daily Supply List is included on the Participant Information Tab on the Camp 1831 page. This list includes recommended items to bring daily to Camp 1831 sessions.

Can I drive myself to Camp 1831?

Students who live on-campus will be able to walk to all Camp 1831 sessions. Students living off-campus will receive specific information regarding parking on campus. All students must check-in at the Ferguson Center on Camp 1831 session days.

 Where will I sleep?

You will sleep at your regular place of residence. For students living on-campus, you will be able to move-in early at your residence hall and will sleep in your room each night. For students living off campus, you will need to make accommodations for your living arrangements. If you are unsure of your options, please contact our office.

Can I have visitors at Camp 1831?

There will be no visitors allowed at Camp 1831. Camp 1831 is for registered students only.

Is there cell phone usage at Camp 1831?

No. You are encouraged to not use your phone during camp. All cell phones will be put away during camp and will not be allowed during camp activities.

In the case of emergency, how can someone attending a Camp 1831 session be contacted?

In case of emergency, contact the Office of First Year Experience and Retention Initiatives at (205) 348-8404. They will be able to get any necessary messages to Camp 1831 staff.

Are there overnight accommodations for the night before each session?

The University of Alabama does not require and is not responsible for lodging prior to Camp 1831 sessions. However, if you are moving on campus for Fall 2018, you will be eligible for early move-in. Please indicate your intention to live on-campus for Fall 2018 when registering, and you will receive more information via email.

How do I make arrangements for special needs?

Early Move-In

How do Camp 1831 sessions correlate with move-in?

Housing and Residential Communities will allow you to move-in early before your camp session. Early move-in dates are August 7, 2018, after 3:00 p.m. for Session 1 and August 12, 2018, after 3:00 p.m. for Session 2. You will indicate your intended place of residence on your registration. If you do not indicate that you will be living on-campus for Fall 2018, you will need to sign up for an available move-in day and time through the HRC website.

If I registered for early move-in, do I need to schedule a move-in time with HRC?

No. If you indicate on your Camp 1831 registration that you will live on-campus for Fall 2018, HRC will automatically schedule your move-in times for the appropriate day and time.

What are the details for early move-in before Session 1 of Camp 1831?

Early move-in for participants of Session 1 will be on Tuesday, August 7 after 3:00 p.m. When you arrive on campus, please call your community desk and an on-call RA will meet you to check you into your residence hall. Housing and Residential Communities will send you information about move-in via crimson email, but you will not need to sign up for a move-in time through the HRC website. If you need to make alternate arrangements from the times listed above, please contact moveinhelp@sa.ua.edu directly to confirm your travel details. If you are planning to live in Bryant Hall, you will need to contact moveinhelp@sa.ua.edu to schedule specifics of your move-in. Note that you will not be allowed to stay in your residence hall room during a Camp 1831 session if you sign up for Camp 1831 and do not attend. 

What are the details for early move-in before Session 2 of Camp 1831?

Early move-in for participants of Session 2 will be on Sunday, August 12 after 3:00pm. When you arrive on campus, please call your community desk and an on-call RA will meet you to check you into your residence hall. Housing and Residential Communities will send you information about move-in via crimson email, but you will not need to sign up for a move-in time through the HRC website. If you need to make alternate arrangements from the times listed above, please contact moveinhelp@sa.ua.edu directly to confirm your travel details. If you are planning to live in Bryant Hall, you will need to contact moveinhelp@sa.ua.edu to schedule the specifics of your move-in. Note that you will not be allowed to stay in your residence hall room during a Camp 1831 session if you sign up for Camp 1831 and do not attend. 

 

Camp 1831 Check-In

Where should I park my car while I am at Camp 1831?

If you live on-campus, you should park your car in your residential zone. For students who live off-campus,  you will receive communication about parking to your Crimson Email. Please visit the Transportation Services Site for information about parking and transportation on campus.

When should I arrive on campus for Camp 1831?

Arrive on campus in time to park and get to Check-In. Check-In is at 8:30 a.m. at the Ferguson Center Great Hall on the first day of your camp session (August 8, 2018 and August 13, 2018).

Will I need to bring anything with me to Check-In for Camp 1831?

Bring your Action Card and a copy of your confirmation email to Check-In at the Ferguson Center Great Hall at 8:30 a.m. on the first day of your camp session. A Daily Supply List is available on the Participant Information page with additional suggested items to bring.

What if I arrive late or miss Check-In for Camp 1831?

Any students who arrive late or miss Check-In need to contact First Year Experience and Retention Initiatives at (205) 348-8404 immediately. No refunds will be issued.
